Zakopane

The town is considered the pearl of the Tatra Mountains, rich in attractions and one of the most charming mountain resorts. A must-see on the list of places to visit in the Polish mountains. There’s something for everyone, whether it’s a couple, a group of friends or a family with young children.

The extraordinary charm of Zakopane

Zakopane is recognized as the capital of Polish skiing and tourism. There is no doubt that one of the most famous attractions is Zakopane Krupowki. It is the main street with wooden restaurants, cafes, shops and art galleries. Local crafts, such as special Zakopane shoes and woolen sweaters can be purchased from the stalls.

People who like contact with nature are sure to make their way to the peak of Gubałowka, which can be reached by chairlift or the cable railway. From the top is a beautiful panoramic view of the Tatra Mountains. In summer and winter, it is also worth going to Kasprowy Wierch. There are two ski slopes in the Kasprowy Mountains for advanced skiers and snowboarding as well as two chair lifts. 

Beautiful views are also offered by Kościeliska Valley, where you can take a simple walk along with very young children. An interesting and easily accessible place in the Morskie Oko lake. However, experienced hikers can take up the challenge and climb Giewont from the Strążyska Valley.

In addition, the popular tourist destination is a special pontoon ride from the Wielka Krokiew ski jump, the largest slide in the world.

Less obvious attractions in Zakopane

There are also many less obvious tourist attractions in Zakopane, such as:

  • Myszogród – 100 small, well-cared mice in richly decorated, detail-packed display cases, in which we can animals riding a train or living in a mountain village.
  • Papugarnia Egzotyczne Zakopane – a parrot center with the patronage of the mayor. The owners focus on the bond between animals and people and combine this with educational values.
  • Śnieżny Zamek – a snow castle full of hidden interiors, tunnels and thrones on which you can sit.
  • Kąpielisko Szymoszkowa – relax in polls filled with hot, 30-degree water from geothermal boreholes.

 

It’s worth knowing that…

  • Zakopane is the highest situated city in Poland, located at an altitude of 750-2301 meters above sea level. 
  • From the town, there are 17 starting points for hiking trails. It is a good destination for those who value active leisure.
